Charlotte Goes Green for St, Patrick's Day Festivities

On Saturday March 16, 2019 Charlotte, North Carolina held it’s 23rdannual “Go Green Festival” along with the St. Patrick’s Day parade. Many residents and visitors came to enjoy the down town fun and festivities.
The parade is organized by a non-profit organization that conducts the parade every year. The parade was led by Grad Marshal Peter Byrne; President of the Charlotte Irish Connection. He is a native of County Mayo, Ireland. Byrne served 13 years in Ireland’s Industrial Development Authority as Vice president in New York.
The St. Patrick’s Day parade was open to music groups, schools, alumni groups, pipe and drum bands. Local police and fire departments participated as well along with many international organizations as well. Many groups gathered to showcase their talents alongside many rescue shelters and local vendors.
The participants began marching through downtown Charlotte at 11 a.m. The parade started on North Tryon street and ended on 9thstreet. More than 125 entries showcased through the street that morning as read on www.charlotteonthecheap.com. This included many floats, animal shelters and local businesses as well. The public filled the streets with different shades of green for their participation of the “Go Green Festival” following the parade.
The “Go Green Festival” was open to the public and no admission fee was required. There were also children’s amusement activities and plenty of food and beverage for sale. Many vendors came to expand their business to the local community. The Go Green Festival is also a big opportunity for many upcoming entrepreneurs.
“I’ve been living in Charlotte for almost two years now and this is my first time going to a parade like this,” said Diamond Brown, a local resident of Charlotte. “I definitely enjoyed this. I will be back next year,” she continued.
Then festival featured Irish music, Irish dancers and other Irish cultured favorites. Throughout the afternoon; bag pipers, drums and tap dancers could be heard on every corner. Irish tradition was celebrated throughout the city.
This weekend also ended the Atlantic Coast Conference men’s basketball tournament that was also held in Charlotte, North Carolina. Many team supporters came from near and far to support their team and also were able to enjoy the St. Patrick’s Day festivities. The Go Green Festival and St. Patrick’s Day parade is held every weekend before St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated.
