SEC Women's Basketball Tournament

The Southeastern Conference Tournament for women’s basketball was held in Greenville, South Carolina at the Bons Secours Arena. The tournament was the main event of the weekend and many teams came from near and far to compete for a place in the final bracket.


On Friday March 8, the highly anticipated game between the University of South Carolina and the University of Arkansas. The winner would play in the semi finals against Texas A&M on Saturday.

The Arkansas Razorbacks came with a strong defense challenging the South Carolina Gamecocks. South Carolina was currently on a 13 game tournament streak including four SEC tournament titles.

During the first quarter Arkansas shot 46.7 percent and they lead by one point. For the second half South Carolina had a difficult time getting through the Arkansas defense. This is the main challenge that kept USC under Arkansas on the score board.

Arkansas ended the fourth quarter defeating South Carolina with a final score of 95 to 89. Arkansas succeeded to compete to the semi-finals.


Arkansas did not let up on any challenges as they also defeated Texas A&M in the semi- finals.

Elliott Pauling attended the game and expressed his views of the events on the court. “USC is playing catch up. If they stay going at the basket and hold their defense tight they could have possibly won the game,” said Pauling. He finished by saying, “Defense will always win championships.”


The Mississippi State women’s basketball team played in the semi- finals against the Missouri University Tigers on Saturday evening at the Bons Secours arena. The winner would then play in the final round on Sunday, March 10. Greenvilleonline.com

After previously being defeated by Missouri on Valentine’ Day, Mississippi State bulldogs came to prove a point and redeem themselves.

The Bulldogs stayed persistent at attacking the basket and gaining points within the paint. By the end of the second quarter they had doubled Missouri’s score at 48 to 24. Missouri still had time to gain victory during the second half.

In the final quarter the Mississippi State Bulldogs defeated the Missouri Tigers with the final score of 71 to 56. The Bulldogs were on their way to the final round against the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Both the Mississippi State Bulldogs and the Arkansas Razorbacks played with full energy and integrity on Sunday in the SEC championship game. Although both teams played with their hearts on the court; Mississippi State earned their bragging rights defeating Arkansas with a final score of 101 to 70.
